Purpose

Conflict is natural in any organization. In a Teal organization, we view conflict as information—a signal that something needs attention. Our approach emphasizes direct communication, mutual understanding, and collaborative problem-solving.

Principles of Healthy Conflict

Conflict is normal - Disagreement means we care enough to engage

Direct over indirect - Address issues with the person involved, not around them

Assume good intent - Start from a place of trust and curiosity

Focus on needs, not positions - Understand what matters beneath the disagreement

Power with, not power over - No one pulls rank; we work it out together

The Conflict Resolution Process

We use a graduated approach, starting with the simplest intervention and escalating only if needed.

Stage 1: Direct Conversation

When: At the first sign of tension or disagreement

Process:

  1. Request a 1-on-1 conversation with the person
  2. Share your perspective using "I" statements
  3. Listen deeply to understand their perspective
  4. Look for common ground and shared needs
  5. Propose solutions together
